La Bergerie

The buildings at 1 Gloret date back to the mid 1600’s.

The main house opposite La Bergerie was originally two dwellings, one of which housed a family with 11 children!

The tiny hamlet of Gloret was originally comprised of five homes that housed the workers employed by the owners of the estate. The estate owners lived in the Manor House, which is located at the end of the lane to the right of the front steps.

La Bergerie was used as a sheep pen with the keystone above the door depicting its original use. The adjoining building, now used for storage, used to house cattle, and the small building at the bottom of the stone steps originally was a pigsty.

Outside the front gates is the original village well and the house opposite still houses the original village bread oven in its garden.

The property was left derelict for many years until it was renovated by the previous owners in 1995.
